PyGreSQL will be installed as two packages named pg (for the classic interface) and pgdb (for the DB API 2 compliant interface). The former also contains a shared library called _pg.so (on Linux) or a DLL called _pg.pyd (on Windows) and a stub file _pg.pyi for this library. This is the most easy way to install PyGreSQL if you have “pip” installed.

Mar 8, 2021 · As @Vzzarr explained, you need to install PyGreSQL properly (this also includes installation of libpq) before you can use it. After proper installation you can import the "pg" (classic) and "pgdb" (DB-API 2) modules. The pg library has not the same name as the importing name so not very intuitive.

Jan 19, 2017 · Environment variables (PATH) are set: PostgreSQL was installed to : _pg.pyd exists as said there. However I still get the same error. I should note that when I open a comand line and do: everything works. What can still be the issue?

Jan 21, 2009 · Installing PyGreSQL isn't trivial, especially on Dell computers. Here's a recipe that worked for me and Python 2.5: Download and install postgresql-8.3.5-2-windows.exe (You shouldn't need the whole install.) Add C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\lib to your PATH for libpq.dll. Add C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\bin to your PATH for ssleay32.dll.
