Since the only reproduction long arm at that time was the Navy Arms Remington Model 1863 Rifle, aka "Zouave", the sight was marketed as a "Zouave Sniper Sight".

In the last two decades Brooks has continued to study the 1st Special Battalion of Louisiana Volunteer Infantry and has come up with additional information about the color of their Zouave jackets and the stripes on their Zouave trousers.

May 4, 2010 · The "Zouave" is a mixture of 1841 rifle with just a touch of 1855 rifle blended in. The Fayetteville is, (for all practical pourposes) a U.S. 1855 rifle, they were built on the same machinery used to make the 1855 rifles, (not to be confused with 1855 rifle muskets, a different creature) captured at Harper's Ferry in 1861.

Oct 11, 2011 · Does anyone make or sell an adjustable rear sight for them? Just looking at tuning them in, to find the spot to drill on a normal blade. I know you can't use an Adj sight for shoots before someone busts on me..... Was thinking about building one that has a slide with a peep sight for elevation but not sure how to work the windage.
