The M-42 was a 45-mm Soviet light semi-automatic anti-tank gun. Its full official name is 45-mm anti-tank gun model 1942 (M-42) (Russian: 45-мм противотанковая пушка образца 1942 года (М-42)). These guns were used from 1942 until the end of World War II.

Apr 27, 2018 · Production of the 45mm Model 1942 began in 1943, eventually replacing the 45mm Model 1937 anti-tank gun. While not intended for anti-tank fighting, Soviet field artillery, especially the widely used ZiS-3 76.2mm divisional gun, was often called upon to fight tanks.

Sep 26, 2018 · Upon the appearance of German tanks with anti-ballistic armor, the Red Army responded with the M1943 (ZiS-2) 57 mm anti-tank gun. It was developed in 1941, but its serial production was delayed until 1943.

Aug 21, 2017 · Born out of desperation in 1941, these improvised tank hunters were based on the ZIS Trucks at Izhorskiye Zavod, fitted with a 45 mm AT gun.

The 45-mm anti-tank gun was replaced by the ZiS-2 and ZiS-3 guns in the fight against heavy tanks. But the weapon was well-established in production, technologically advanced and mobile on the battlefield.

The Soviet Union developed the ZiS-2 Model 1941 anti-tank gun in anticipation of an increase in tank armor on the battlefield. It used a 3inch (76.2mm) cartridge, which was necked down to fire a 2.24inch (57mm) round.

Jul 22, 2020 · I believe that since 45mm Mod 32, 37 AT guns were pretty useless against vehicles with 50-60mm of vertical armour, the next higher tier soviet ATG should've been designed to counter those threats.
