The Four Books are the Great Learning 《大學》, the Doctrine of the Mean 《中庸》, the Analects of Confucius 《論語》, and Mencius 《孟子》. Zhu Xi is written Chu Hsi in the Wade-Giles Romanization system.

In this edition, the chapters are arranged more logically, starting with discussions on learning, followed by the Four Books and the Six Classics, and finally, topics on human nature, morality, cosmology, yin and yang, and spirits.
