Jan 18, 2007 · Good Luck, its my understanding that Valvoline only makes Zerex G48 available to mfrs. However, there is one retail alternative to BMW/Mini coolant. Check out SAAB "blue" coolant. Besides being blue, it comes in a similar white container and according to Vavoline Zerex G48 tech sheet is made up of the same stuff as BMW/Mini.

Change interval is whatever car manual says. I just went through researching this for my 98 W210. Used Zerex G05 which is sessentially what car had when new. I use same on my 85 300D and 72 R107. Not sure what my GLK250 has, but it has no regular service requirement. MB went to the G48 coolant in 2012.

Feb 1, 2016 · I've used the G48 as factory-authorized coolant for MINI (BMW) and Volvo. I believe it's also the recommended choice for SAAB. I've never owned a SAAB so I can't say for certain. If you compare the properties of G05 and G48 you won't see much difference. From what I know the main difference is the 05 contains nitrites where 48 does not.

Oct 2, 2022 · Two of them have Zerex G05; one has Zerex G48. The test strips I got are Fleetguard 3-way test strips. They test glycol/freeze point, molybdate, and nitrite. I understand how to do and read the test. What I'm uncertain about is whether these test strips are a good way to test my particular (Zerex) coolant.

Sep 17, 2024 · zerex G48 is the same material as the original BASF Glysantin formula 48 that mercedes benz fills at the factory. but if you are in a pinch and need coolant immediately for cheap walmart sells the same blue coolant under their own brand name for 12 dollars a gallon.

Sep 13, 2006 · This is not a coolant thread. I know not to run with scissors, smoke in bed, and that many feel that blue is the only way to go. I'm going with Zerex. It doesn't make me a bad person. I do have a question though- is Zerex G05 compatible with whatever blue may be residually in the system after a (sort of) flush?
