In 1957, the base ZIS-150 model was replaced by ZIL-164, which differed outwardly only by vertical grille bars and bumper. Already at the end of the 1930s, the ZIS-5 truck (ЗИС-5) was to be replaced by a modern design.

The ZIL-164 was a medium/heavy-duty truck produced by ZiL from 1958 to 1965, as a more modernized version of the ZIL-150 truck which stoppd getting produced in 1958. Over 200,000 trucks had been built until production ended and it was replaced by the ZIL-130 truck.

Der ZIL-164 (russisch ЗИЛ-164) war ein zweiachsiger Lastkraftwagen des sowjetischen Fahrzeugherstellers Sawod imeni Lichatschowa, der von 1957 bis 1965 in Serie gebaut wurde. Er war Nachfolger des ZIS-150 und wurde am Ende der Produktionszeit durch den ZIL-130 ersetzt.

In 1957 ZIS-164 replaced ZIS-150 on assembly line. In 1961 the truck was modified into ZIL-164A (with some units from future ZiL-130). ZIL-164 (together with GAZ-51A) was main truck of first half of 1960's in the USSR. In 1964 basal ZIS-164A model was finally substituted by ZIL-130.
