Nikon cleverly put its Z 28mm f2.8 right between the existing Z 24mm f1.8 S and Z 35mm f1.8 S and made it much smaller, lighter and cheaper than both alternatives. Its slow focal ratio of f2.8 might be a bit of a let-down but was certainly decisive in reducing size, weight and price.

Sep 14, 2023 · In answer to your question, the Z30 is just for general travel. Indoor and outdoor shots. I never seem to need long reach nor extra wide. I'm leaning toward the Z 28 f/2.8 because of price, compact size, and normal view. If I decide to add a FF body like a Z5, both the 28 and the 40 (that I have) will work well. Z lens choice for Z30?
