The cubes can be seen in a recognizable form in 1965. Most of the animation staples are named not after their original users, but after the most famous ones. Applies to stuff like "Gainax bounce" (which saw usage in 1981) and "Obari pose" (originally used by Shin Matsuo) as well.

For those who do not know, you know in really well animated scenes in action anime when the ground explodes and the debris is all square shaped? Those are called "yutapon cubes" in the animation industry. They are usually used in really well animated scenes.

Oct 6, 2021 · They're called Yutapon Cubes, known most for being an animation quirk of renowned animator Yutaka Nakamura, but is very popular as a technique in general, and animators love replicating it. I think they're pretty cool personally, and Yutaka Nakamura is a genius for more reasons than just an interesting stylistic tell.

Jan 30, 2020 · So a lot of the times in anime, if there's an impact like something hits the ground, and they're trying to show that it's so powerful that I breaks the ground, when they show pieces of the ground, they'll show it dividing up into little cubes. Ik it's named after a certain animator but not the animator that created it.
