TIPS FOR THE WELL-WRITTEN BILL Each bill in Youth in Government must contain the following sections: A TITLE This is the part of the bill that will be read in committee and in the legislative bodies when the bill is up for consideration. A good title is concise and states what the bill is about. EXAMPLE:
A bill is an idea put into proper legislative form and is the document that drives the legislative branch. This document aims to create new laws, or add to, repeal, or amend (change) current laws.
Most students form teams and serve as Senators or Representatives by drafting and debating bills. These bills cover a wide variety of topics with statewide impact.
Our bill contains a fiscal line item indicating how we intend to fund it. Our bill concerns matters of STATE law, not local or federal. Our bill is constitutional.
WHAT IS A YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT BILL? A Bill is an idea for a new law. It is written by students. The Bill will be printed in a Bill Book. Every delegate will receive a Bill Book. Bills will be discussed in Committees. If the Committee thinks that the Bill would make a good law, they will send it to the Legislature where it could become a law.
