The Yi or Nuosu people (Nuosu: Yi: ꆈꌠ, ; see also § Names and subgroups) are an ethnic group in southern China. Numbering nine million people, they are the seventh largest of the 55 ethnic minority groups recognized by the Chinese government .

Yi, ethnic group of Austroasiatic origin living largely in the mountains of southwest China and speaking a Tibeto-Burman language. The Yi people numbered more than 7.5 million in the early 21st century.

With a population of 6,5 Million, the Yi Nationality is one of the oldest minority groups in the southwest of China, mostly concentrated in the mountain areas of Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou provinces and the northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
