The Yi or Nuosu people (Nuosu: Yi: ꆈꌠ, [nɔ̄sū]; see also § Names and subgroups) are an ethnic group in southern China. Numbering nine million people, they are the seventh largest of the 55 ethnic minority groups recognized by the Chinese government.

Yi (pronounced YEE) are the seventh largest ethnic group and the sixth largest minority in China. They numbered 9,830,327 in 2020 and made up 0.70 percent of the total population of China in 2020 according to the 2020 Chinese census.

With a population of 6,5 Million, the Yi Nationality is one of the oldest minority groups in the southwest of China, mostly concentrated in the mountain areas of Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou provinces and the northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
