Shahidi was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota to an Iranian father and an African-American mother. At the age of 4, she moved with her family to California due to her father's work. She began her career when she was only six years old, in commercials such as McDonald's, Ralph Lauren, Target, GapKids, Disney, Guess Kids.
