Xiao Lu (Chinese: 肖鲁; born 1962) is a Chinese artist specializing in Performance art and Installation art. She became famous in 1989, when she participated in the 1989 China/Avant-Garde Exhibition with her work Dialogue.

Fifteen years after the gunshot event, Xiao Lu challenged her own mute stance with an explosive revelation about the deeply personal circumstances relating to the creation of Dialogue and the shooting action.

Xiao Lu (肖鲁) lives and works between China and Sydney, Australia. She is regarded as one of the most influential artistic figures of the radical and experimental group, ’85 New Wave, and one of the few women to be associated with the movement.

Best known for raising a gun and shooting at her work in the National Art Museum of China in 1989, thus precipitating the closing down of the show by the government, and her brief arrest, Xiao is considered one of China’s most influential and provocative female artists.

Subsequently, after her return to Beijing, Xiao Lu became involved with the ‘Bald Girls’ group of feminist artists, prior to developing a performance practice involving ink, ice, water, medicinal herbs, alcohol and, sometimes, calligraphy. She lives and works in Sydney.
