Xerxes is a legendary king of Persia. He is the overall main antagonist of 300 film series and the archenemy to the protagonist, King Leonidas. He is the main antagonist of the film, 300, and the secondary antagonist of the sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire. He is based on the real King Xerxes.

By 480 BC, a decade after the Persian defeat at Marathon, Xerxes had amassed a massive land and naval force, and subsequently set out to conquer all of Greece.

The plot revolves around King Leonidas (Gerard Butler), who leads 300 Spartans into battle against the Persian "God-King" Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his invading army of more than 300,000 soldiers. As the battle rages, Queen Gorgo ( Lena Headey ) attempts to rally support in Sparta for her husband.
