Apr 2, 2009 · I think this has something to do with reliability of G36 magazines over AR15 magazines. In Army dust tests most (if not all) 416 stoppages were magazine problem, while XM8 that used magazines made after G36 ones had least number of stoppages.

Sep 9, 2009 · The G36 is one of the most reliable 5.56mm assault rifles on the globe and actually outperforms the HK33 in HK's own testing. That similar op rod gas system was later used in the XM8, HK416, HK417 and MP7 with excellent results as well.
