The New Flyer Industries XDE40 is a diesel-electric transit bus from New Flyer's Xcelsior line. It was the first Xcelsior model and was launched at the 2008 APTA Expo. The first customer of the XDE40 was Brampton Transit in 2010 for their Züm service.

The New Flyer Xcelsior is a line of transit buses available in 35-foot rigid, 40-foot rigid, and 60-foot articulated nominal lengths manufactured by New Flyer Industries since 2008.

Nov 10, 2024 · In November 2021, SEPTA approved the purchase of 220 New Flyer XDE40 hybrid buses, with an additional 120 buses being confirmed to arrive with the FY2024 budget. The first of these 340 buses arrived on SEPTA property in November of 2022.
