Jan 17, 2025 · The Wolf Kahn Foundation is dedicated to preserving and promoting the artistic achievements of Wolf Kahn (1927-2020) and to sharing them with audiences, scholars, and other artists towards a greater understanding of his work and his lasting contribution to American art of the Second Generation New York School.

Wolf Kahn created landscapes in rich, vibrant oils, pastels and prints for more than sixty years. Early Life and Education. Wolf Kahn was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1927, the youngest of four children.

Kahn works in oil and pastel. His works usually covers the subject of landscapes and his own personal vision of nature. His convergence of light and color has been described as combining "pictorial landscapes and painterly abstraction".

Wolf Kahn (October 4, 1927 – March 15, 2020) [1] was a German-born American painter. Kahn, known for his combination of Realism and Color Field, worked in pastel, oil paint, and printmaking. He studied under Hans Hofmann, [2] and also graduated from the University of Chicago. [3]

In Large Tree Line (oil,52×72), one block of color is set against another, and they’re kept “overt and separated.” That’s distinctly different from 19th-century paintings that can, in his words, “squander color” by including a bit of every hue. “You have to work very carefully to adjust tonalities.” he says.
