Wiyot cultural practices and language were discouraged by official policies of "acculturation." Wiyot people learned to work and live within the white community, effectively "walking in two worlds." Wiyot people often went to white schools, married European immigrants, and helped to build the timber, fishing and agricultural industries.

Wiyot Day was October 3rd, after the Semi-Annual meeting. There were vendors, staff department displays, flag ceremony by the Girl Scouts Troop number 70060, Brush Dance Demonstration, Stick Game Demonstration, buffet and fireworks in the evening.

Dishgamu Humbodlt was created to address these challenges and help restore balance to Wiyot ancestral territory - now a collection of highly interdependent yet disparately governed cities and towns, as well as the population center of Humboldt County and the northern California coast.
Wiyot Tribe – Lhou’lhaqh (South Fork Eel River) Sacramento Pikeminnow Management Plan 8 Executive Summary This management plan is focused on non-native Sacramento pikeminnow in Lhou’lhaqh or the South Fork of the Eel River. Lhou’lhaqh is the Soulatluk word for the South Fork of the Eel River, which is the language of the Wiyot Tribe.

This project, which we are calling Qhili Soulatluk ("Wiyot language/people are here") is creating interactive and print maps of Wiyot territory: one for public use, containing no culturally sensitive details; and a comprehensive one for Tribal use only.

The Wiyot Tribe received a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to create a Soulatluk (the language of the Wiyot people) Conversation Book. We are calling the project "Rou Soulatlouy" , which means "we all speak Wiyot".
