Connecting the Old Rope to the New Rope - Python Wire Rope
Welding two ropes together is common in the steel industry. If properly done, welding may develop sufficient strength to complete the rope installation. However, the welded portion of the rope is rather stiff, and the welded steel wire material may become brittle.
Wire seizing is soft wire used to keep the individual wire rope component ends bound together while cutting, preparing, and handling a wire rope. It keeps them from opening up, helps maintain lay lengths, and lowers the chances of distortion at the ends when cut that could lead to issues.
