Whale vomit, known as Ambergris, is a dead gray, solid, wax-like material created in the intestines and digestive system of sperm whales.

In 2016, three fishermen from the middle eastern country of Oman struck "floating gold" in the form of ambergris, traditionally thought to be whale vomit. (Modern science says the waxy substance is more like a whale gallstone, or whale poop.)

The simple answer is yes; whales can and do vomit. When food or bacteria gets lodged in the whale’s throat and digestive system, it irritates its digestive tract. It causes it to vomit the trapped food/bacteria out of its mouth to clear its throat for other foods and prevent the whale from losing its ability to swallow/digest its food properly.
