Nov 22, 2018 · Looking for any wet wing experts out there. I own a Mooney M20F, for the last year or so. She had sad looking paint. It looks like I'm going to be able to get it to respectable with a lot of Clay Bar work and then a Meguires #7 Soak, where you let the #7 set on the surface for about a day so the paint can soak up the oils that have dried out of it.

Feb 18, 2020 · Bladder tanks were changed by Cessna to wet wings presumably to address marketing concerns with the prior “killer caps” and bladder folds holding water that didn’t show during sumping. ADs on that. I am not even sure the newer wet wing could be converted to bladders. My fuel capacity is 80 gal.

Mar 2, 2005 · Third, based on various owner reports I've read the lifetime of the average bladder installation isn't much different versus the lifetime of a good reseal. IOW, O&N might claim that bladders are "the permanent solution to wet-wing leaks" but you need to read that claim carefully.

Based on a visual inspection of my fuel tanks, my A&P has suggested that I plan on having the tanks stripped and re-sealed sometime in the next year or so. I know there's shops that specialize in this task. I've located a few in the central/eastern US.

Jan 26, 2002 · Yes, you are right about the Constellation L049 (C89), it was designed with a wet wing, as was the earlier design (1938) DC4 (C54), but these aircraft were later fitted with bladders as the sealant used did not stop leaks. The DC6 leak problem was solved (eventually), but proved to be a difficult project with new wartime developed sealants.

Apr 22, 2013 · The wet wing (integral tank) is a slightly different animal. The structure itself is sealed up to act as a tank. Converting a bladder system to an integral tank would require an STC and considerable cash, since access to the inside of the cavity is very difficult.

Mar 26, 2018 · PRC or similar is a good product for sealing fuel tanks, but gooping it on over top may help in the short term, but will usually end up leaking around the sealant. Then more is added and round and round you go. Just ask someone with a wet wing Cessna with leaks how they finally got theirs to stop leaking. When was your tank last removed?

Dec 21, 2016 · I have a 1980 TR182. Wet Wing. Yes, they CAN leak. Mine don’t. Most common cause of leaks is use of flaps at too high an airspeed: the flap attach points are on the rear spar web that forms the aft part of the tank. The POH limits for flap usage (Vfe) are 0º to 10º below 140 KIAS, 10º to 40º below 95 KIAS (top of the white arc).
