Westfest was founded in 1976 as a means for the West community to raise funds for a variety of projects, including various athletic facilities for youth groups, senior citizen activities, a community center, library and other civic and cultural programs.

The 5k starts & finishes on the Westfest Grounds. Approximately 1 mile south of downtown West on Main Street. The Kolache 5000 is 5000 meters/3.1 miles USATF/RRTC certified, fully paved, loop course down Main Street through downtown West. Finish inside Westfest grounds. Relatively flat & fast. 1st mile sloping downhill; last mile is slight uphill.
