The WX-500 is basically a WX-950 without a display. Instead, it puts Stormscope information on a display you already have installed, such as a GTN-650/GTN-750, GNS-430W/GNS-530W, GNS-430/GNS-530, MX-20, GMX-200, KMD-150, etc.

Designed to interface with most MFD’s, the WX-500 allows pilots to view lightning information directly on their MFD - on a dedicated page or overlaid on the map. Whether you are a commercial pilot flying an all glass cockpit or a General Aviation pilot with a traditional panel, Stormscope fits the model that suits your needs.

A Stormscope or Strike Finder instead measures the actual electrical discharges that accompany a thunderstorm. These discharges may be cloud to ground, cloud to cloud, or within a cloud, and are an excellent indication of thunderstorm strength.

Stormscope is a long range, high-performance thunderstorm avoidance system. It also provides more display and installation flexibility than other Stormscopes. The display may also be shared with SkyWatch HP traffic avoidance systems.

The system consists of an antenna located on top of the fuselage just forward of the rear window and a processor unit mounted under the aft baggage floor.

The WX-500 has been in continuous production since it was introduced in 1997. It is a two-piece Stormscope system, including a processor and antenna. The WX-500 was designed exclusively for use with your multi-function display.
