Apr 10, 2008 · The M38A2 practice bombs were used extensively during WW2. I have an original photo of the bomb storage area from Greenville Army Air Base, SC. It shows a huge stack of hundreds of M38A2 bombs in the cardboard shipping boxes awaiting use.

Oct 3, 2009 · What you have in my "limited" area of knowledge of these is a "practice" bomb which I believe was filled with either white powder/sand and when dropped it would bust and the powder would give off an "Explosion" like puff of smoke so it could be seen from the air and ground obsevers.
