Arc 5: The Book of Elements is the 5th arc of the w.i.t.c.h. comic book series. This arc followed the eponymous Book of Elements written by the villainous Johnathan Ludmoore. This arc also featured the return of Cedric after a long absence.

The "Witches 5" (ウィッチーズ5, Witchīzu Faibu) are a subgroup of the Death Busters and their loyal servants. They take commands from the higher commanders, like Kaolinite or Professor Tomoe, depending on the adaptation.

The series features a group of five teenage girls who become the guardians of the classical elements of energy, water, fire, earth, and air, and protectors of the mythical Kandrakar, the center of the universe. The story follows them as they handle their new magical powers and responsibilities, as well as their lives as adolescents.

When Meridian is finally freed from evil and the true heir takes the throne, a mysterious evil sorceress named Nerissa releases Prince Phobos' top henchmen and reforms them as the Knights of Vengeance to act as a distraction to the Guardians.

Like the comic, the show follows five girls: Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin who have magical powers which they use to fulfill their duties as "Guardians of the Veil". The names of these five characters form the titular acronym, despite the characters not actually being witches.

In the anime, the Witches 5 were in charge of finding the Pure Heart Crystals, first in order to locate the three talismans, and later to awaken the Messiah of Silence.
