The picture of the burn seem to suggest that it was the high beam bulb that did it, not the DRL bulb (which you indicated was a 5W bulb). 5W will not likely do that unless it happens to touch the reflector.

Well, the original HIR bulbs that I had(the bulb enclosure was sort of rounded) were way bright, but they are no longer produced. I believe they were made by Toshiba. There is some question as to if the current bulbs being marketed as HIR even have the halogen reflective coating any more.

Flösser power-rates their bulb at 13.5v rather than 12.0v. For any/all filament bulbs, the wattage rises exponentially to the power 1.6 with voltage increase. So a bulb rated 65w at 12.0v will be rated 78.5w (printed as 80w) at 13.5v. It's not two different bulbs, just two different test protocols.

Same deal here. Run-of-the-mill 9011 bulb versus highly optimized 9011 bulb. Some people said that the Philips 9011 is basically a "boosted" 9005 bulb, and it does look like it here. The 9011 bulb has visible gaps between the turns. The Toshiba bulb's filament is a little wavy. But it appears to be as similarly dense as the new Sylvania 9011's ...
