To Balun or not to Balun... - QRZ Forums
Feb 19, 2004 · First of all, all baluns are NOT constructed the same. Your friend who put the balun in the antenna where it worked "awful on all but 80 meters" was likely using the dime-store voltage balun.... Choke baluns like the W2AU/W2DU or some Radio Works units would not have been as bad, but even those baluns are not designed for such high mis-matches.
What is a Guanella Balun? | QRZ Forums
Feb 14, 2024 · Balun is a type of transformer. A 1:1 balun will connect to a 50 Ohms unbalanced line and present a balanced output at 50 Ohms. In its simplest form, a 1:1 Guanella balun is an RF choke which presents a high impedance to the unablanced current flowing on the external aspect of the shield or outer conductor of the coaxial cable.
Adding Balun and Tuning 10 m Dipole - QRZ Forums
Mar 9, 2024 · I had made a half-wave dipole antenna for 10 m recently, but had not added a 1:1 balun at the feedpoint. There was no PL 259 connector at the cut end of RG 213 for connection to my recently purchased 1:1 balun. Yesterday I crimped a PL 259 connector to the cut end of the RG 213 which was 15 m long. Now it was ready for connecting the 1:1 balun.
Close Look at a 1:1 Current Balun - QRZ Forums
Feb 20, 2024 · I did not put a balun at the feedpoint of my 20 m inverted V dipole antenna as I did not have the raw materials to make one. So I bought a 1:1 Current Balun from another ham. Before installing it for my 20 m antenna, out of curiosity, I thought of having a closer look at it. It is rated for 1000 W, though my radio is only 100 W.
Buck/Boost for QRP, Build a Balun & M5 Ham Radio
Nov 18, 2023 · Mike assembles a Buck/Boost converter device for use with QRP operations. George shows how to make a high quality 4:1 Balun.
Adding an 'Ugly' Balun to My End Fed Antenna! - QRZ Forums
As I did not have a regular 1:1 current balun at hand, I thought of adding an air core balun made out of surplus part of the feedline itself. Looked around for a three inch PVC pipe and found none in the store. It was then that the nice PET bottle in the kitchen table attracted my attention. It was exactly three inch in diameter.
Improving 40 m performance of my EFHW Antenna - QRZ Forums
Feb 22, 2024 · Secondly I lowered the position of the balun to about 10 feet from the ground and anchored it to my compound wall fence with a nylon rope of about 2 m length so that it was away from the iron frame of the compound fence. Lowering of the balun gave me option of removing most of the zig-zag orientation of the antenna wire.
Ham Radio - The Doublet. An old but good multi-band single …
Dec 9, 2019 · A 4:1 balun used with a non resonant antenna can be disastrous, as because of the high swr it doesn't do effective common mode current blocking or a proper impedance transformation. Instead, use a 1:1 current balun, which you can easily make from 10 turns of the coax on a couple of stacked 2.4" type 43 material cores.
Ham Radio - The Doublet. An old but good multi-band single …
Dec 9, 2019 · Wat I meant was not to use the balun on the antenna side of the tuner that connects to the feed line because that balun, having its own impedance, would mismatch with the unknown impedances on the antenna side of the tuner. Having the balun on the transmitter side of the tuner ensures the balun always sees the correct impedance on both sides.
MFJ-904H Review - Compact Antenna Tuner, up to 150W from 80 …
Oct 15, 2017 · This is the review of a tiny tuner, the MFJ-904H, it can handles up to 150 Watts, not 300W as mention in the video at 0:40, sorry for the confusion,...
