To understand Vyrn, you first need to understand Bahamut. First there is The Omnipotent One. Basically god. He split everything in existence into two, including himself. So now we have the Astral God for the Astral Realm, and the Sky God (Bahamut) for the Sky Realm (where we are).

My theory is: the Vryn that is with us is a part of the Ultimate Bahamut, the one that in the intro of GBF mention because Morgana felt that Vryn was kind of a shadow but at the same time not yet but his ability to transform made Morgana believes that.

Vyrn is alright within its character archetype... of a mascot character. I've seen many much more annoying mascots in other games and I'm thankful of Kugimiya's voice acting: cute, distinct, and not overboard (example would be the recent Precure collab).
