From 11 January 2024 candidates will have access to a new online Music Theory practice platform to prepare for their Grade 1 to 5 exams.

Available at eight levels with a focus on musical knowledge and understanding and the building blocks of music. Exams are taken online at Grades 1 to 5 and are paper-based at Grades 6 to 8.

The new 2025 & 2026 repertoire lists include piano music for one hand at Grades 1 to 5. Any candidate can play these in their Performance Grade exam from 1 January 2025.

The Bowed Strings Performance Grades Syllabus includes the repertoire lists for Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass and the exam requirements. The Performance Grades Qualification Specification is for all subjects and includes the entry requirements and marking criteria.

Performance Grades are digital exams that we assess from a video recording submitted by the candidate. They're available for the following levels and subjects: Initial Grade: Piano, Bowed Strings and Drum Kit only Grades 1 to 8: a range of instruments and singing, including Singing for Musical Theatre and Drum Kit Grades 1 to 5: Jazz instruments

Violin Sight-Reading Trainer helps develop skills to quickly spot the key features, patterns and characteristics in music before you play it. Available for Grades 1–5.

The Bowed Strings syllabuses from 2024 feature refreshed repertoire lists for Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass. There are no changes to the scales and arpeggios, sight-reading and aural tests in the Practical Grade syllabus.
