Sep 23, 2021 · The VR6 dates back to 1991 and was originally supposed to be a Diesel engine. They have gotten many updates over the years, but it really hasn’t changed much since it was first out in the B6 Passat. Porsche reworked the cylinder head of yhe VR6 and they ran that as the V6 option until the 2018 model year.

Jun 27, 2023 · It’s basically a narrow angle V6 but the first two generations were officially called VR6 by VW. Later although VW for some reason decided to just use V6 as the terminology. Also, that’s not the engine cover that you’re seeing, it’s all part of the intake manifold.

Sep 23, 2021 · VR6 is more reliable than 2.0 by a mile. Even the new 3.6L, I would take it any day over any 2.0 offered for this big of an SUV. If it's lower miles, any concerns are warranty. If it's higher miles, any concerns are likely already corrected. FWIW, the only 150K+ Atlas I've seen so far was a 2.0L. :) So really it's up to what you're looking for.

The VR6 is supposed to have 60-80 more hp than the 2.0T engine, but the bigger engine and AWD system gains extra 500+ lbs to the car, which almost cancel out the extra hp from the V6 engine. In other words, the VR6 engine is not performing notably better …

You won’t make as much power as the 1.8t when modded (unless you boost the vr6) but the VR6 is more reliable, sounds better, and the bottom end torque is more enjoyable. The 1.8t is certainly easier to work with, but with the VR6 being so reliable, that doesn’t even matter!

Apr 10, 2017 · A lot of the Corrado guys in the local VW circles rather much prefer the VR6 cars to the G60. The supercharger on those things weren't great and got some nicknames like "Grenade 60" and "G-Shitty." People say that the supercharger needs a rebuild after every 60k miles or so, which can get quite expensive for a daily driver.

Jul 29, 2021 · The R32s VR6 had a 3.2L displacement that the aforementioned Passat, Audi TT 3.2 and other VW products used at the time, here in North America they marketed it as a "V6" for some reason, so it was larger than the 2.8 engine the MK4 GTI/Jetta used at the time and that version came from the Corrado but was updated over the years.

Jul 29, 2020 · Always wished the mk6 kept the VR6 alive for 1 more iterarion and just stepped up to the 3.6 in the R. 280-300hp stock (not to mention the instant V6 torque would be an all-around better performer compared with the stock 250hp 2.0T that really doesnt get torquey until 3rd gear.
