Mar 9, 2008 · The G28 sensor is the Engine Speed Sensor, the small inductive (Hall) sensor that is on the front side of the block, right near the oil filter housing. I just had that same code and replaced mine, no problems since.

Jun 1, 2017 · There have been a few threads asking about the G28 sensor on the common-rail cars but there wasn't really any straightforward information about it. I just had to replace one on a 2010 and thought I'd share my experience. The sensor is actually bolted on to the rear main seal.

The Engine Speed Sensor (G28) is also used as a reference sensor for the crankshaft position. Check the wiring to/from the sensor and engine control module to rule out harness and module damage due to engine oil or coolant from a failed sensor or tensioner.

vw ref 022957147A for the 3.2 v6 (and other engines I guess) has a cable of 420mm => this is the right part number for the Treg. The Bosch (0261210145) cable length is 310mm and also works with the 3.2 V6 in the Golf IV and other vw cars.

May 21, 2009 · This TSB will fix the 04 BEW hard start issue. I was getting a "16705 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Implausible Signal" code almost all the time. I would clear it and it would come right back within a day or so.
