Factoring out the warranty stuff, and the dye, is there really that much difference b/t VW 508.00 and say for example Castrol Edge 0w-20 Dexos2 (ILSAC GF-6/API SP) The Mazda Skyactiv engine is a well engineered engine and so is the Tsi 1.4.

The low viscosity in combination with a greatly reduced HTHS viscosity (⥠2.6 mPas for xW-20) and low friction enable a lower fuel consumption of up to 4 % compared to engine oils with 5W-30 viscosity class.

The specifications demand an oil in viscosity class SAE 0W-20 with a reduced HTHS viscosity of at least 2.6 mPa.s. This allows fuel savings of at least 4% to be achieved.

Nov 3, 2010 · Check whether 2020 Q5 has the option of VW 5004/507.00 in the manual. In reality, in both, you can use VW504.00/507.00 If 2020 has only VW508.00/509.00 option, use whatever approved. For 2017 you can use VW502.00 or VW504.00/507.00. The grade is irrelevant. Approval is what counts.

Dec 26, 2005 · If it says VW 508 00 just pick up VW's own VW 508 00/0W-20 which is supposed to be made by Mobil. Excellent stuff and reasonably priced. Feel free to tell me what your engine code and I'll research its suitable approval(s). My 2018 GTI manual suggest both VW 502 00, 504 00 and VW 508 00.

May 17, 2021 · This. VW 508 00 isn't backwards compatible, so it has to be avoided to be run in previous engines (calling for VW 502 00 or 504 00). That's why it's dyed. It's most probably true that VWoA doesn't want the OP running VW 504 00 in his 2021 GLI, but that isn't because it would harm that engine. It's just because of CAFE.

Apr 11, 2021 · They are using 0W20 oil in an engine designed around VW504.00/507.00 oils. Manufacturers in chase of CAFE standards do make mistakes or purposely bet on certain life expectancy. This would not be first rodeo for VW where they had issues with oils, not sticking to original oils used in certain engines.

Apr 7, 2021 · VW 508 is one of the tougher specs for an 0w20 to meet, which is why it’s not plastered on run of the mill 0w20s at Wally’s. I don’t know why it is a tough spec but I have noticed on countless UOAs viscosity retention is excellent regardless of brand. I used to walk in and buy the VW stuff from the dealer for 6 bucks a quart.
