ESO - The Secondary Mirror, M2 Unit
The M2 mirror is a convex hyperbolic mirror with an external diameter slightly in excess of 1 meter. By modifying its position and orientation it is possible to correct some optical aberration of the telescope (defocus and decentring coma) and to change the pointing.
During the month of September 1998 REOSC Optique in Paris successfully completed the mechanical mounting and the optical tests of the second VLT M2 mirror in Beryllium.
The new VLT-DSM M2 unit: construction and electromechanical …
We present the design, construction and validation of the new M2 unit of the VLT Deformable Secondary Mirror. In the framework of the Adaptive Optics Facility program, ADS and Microgate designed a new secondary unit which replaces the current Dornier one.
VLT secondary mirror unit performance and test results
Aug 25, 1998 · This paper explains the overall mechanical functions of the Very Large Telescope Secondary Mirror Unit (VLT-M2 Unit), and the method of their verification by tests inside two different test adapters.
ESO - VLT Unit Telescopes
5 days ago · The stellar light is collected by the primary mirror (M1), concentrated by the combination of the primary and the secondary mirror (M2) either directly to the Cassegrain focus located below the primary or to one of the two Nasmyth focii.
The active optics of the VLT functions in exactly the same way as with the Dornier M2. The full potential of the DSM is unleashed in adaptive optics mode: here the 1170 actuators are used to ...
The M2-LCU will generate standard HKL (Housekeeping Link) commands for the MG-LCU. The purpose of the MG-LCU (developed by Microgate) is to provide a SPARTA-compatible HKL interface to the...
A deformable secondary mirror for the VLT - art. no. 62720V
The M2-LCU is provided directly by ESO. It is connected to the standard VLT-LAN and to a second Ethernet connection dedicated to distribute the fast steering commands. The M2-LCU will generate standard HKL (Housekeeping Link) commands for the MG-LCU.
(PDF) Delivery of the Second Generation VLT Secondary Mirror (M2…
Mar 1, 2013 · The deformable secondary mirror (DSM), one of the key systems of the VLT Adaptive Optics Facility (AOF), has been delivered to ESO. It has been fully qualified in standalone mode and has...
