The combination of forces enabled VDL to produce a unique vehicle with superior characteristics. Since 2012 these AGVs have been operational at Delta Terminal Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This AGV can handle (2x)20’, 40’ and 45’ ISO containers in the port of Rotterdam.

This AGV fits with VDL Groep’s ambition to be the top specialist in the field of heavy duty vehicle electrification. The vehicle is also innovative in a number of other areas: it loads and unloads the cargo up to 78 tonnes itself, and with a height of 1.15 metres has an extremely low design.

VDL Automated Vehicles has proven to be the first company to operate AGV's in mixed traffic! To date suppliers have always separated AGV's from other traffic. VDL has managed to reach a legislative and technical levels to drive an AGV on the industrial premises of BASF Ludwigshafen.

VDL started to develop its first Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) in 2009. Since the beginning all AGV activities have been tutored by two independent VDL companies; VDL Containersystemen & VDL Steelweld.

May 12, 2017 · At the Transport Logistic Munich 2017, BASF launched their new patented logistic concept in cooperation with VDL Automated Vehicles. This AGV is the world's first to participate in mixed traffic.

Jan 11, 2021 · VDL’s largest fleet of electric buses to date will be operational in Oslo from January 2022. With 102 Citeas, VDL is contributing to an important objective of the Norwegian capital: by 2028, public transport must be emission free.
