Feb 4, 2009 · dont waste your time on a v6, either do a I6, V8 or Diesel swap. I6- easiest do do, prolly cheapest. the JK v6 sucks balls V8- in the end would cost as much as a v6 swap, get more power, more work etc. but better than I6 Diesel- the best of the best (most of the time). low end torque, less electronics. built like tanks. costs close to a v8 swap
V6 vs I6 - Jeep Enthusiast Forums
Feb 2, 2009 · Yes the 4.0 I6 in the cherokees is the same in the late model YJs and TJs. The new JKs come with a v6, V6s were never offered in YJs or TJs, just a lot of people don't know the difference, so they put stuff in listings say that it has a 4.0L V6, unless it is a 07+ model, then it has the 3.6L(i think) V6

Jul 28, 2008 · You can overheat an I4 or I6 generally with no big issues, try that on a iron/aluminum engine and at a minimum you will be replacing head gaskets. They expand and contract at different rates vs the iron/iron of the Inline engines which tend to lessen the problem quite a lot. I have never liked aluminum in any engine.
I6 vs V6?? - Jeep Wrangler Forum
Jan 29, 2007 · The V6 in the new JK's is the same 3.8L outta the Caravan... but being in a JK, they are starting to develop performance parts for it, and being a V6, its a little easier for the market to make things for. The I6 is better in stock trim than the V6 IMO.

Nov 11, 2007 · 84-86 XJs had the GM 2.8 V6. IIRC from what I've read, the 4.0 I6 and the 3.8 V6 used in the JK are pretty close in HP, but the V6 makes it at a higher RPM. Don't remember torque specs off the top of my head.

In-line 6 vs the V-6 - Jeep Wrangler Forum
Dec 29, 2010 · The current V6 is a car/van engine that is sorely missing the low-end torque that is a characteristic of an inline six. The V6 takes more rpms to develop the same torque level the I6 does at low rpms typical for offroading. I've driven both …
3.8L v6 vs. 4.0L I-6 - Jeep Enthusiast Forums
Aug 15, 2007 · Actually, when you compare the torque curves there is not much difference. Yes, the 3.8 torque peak comes at a higher rpm but it doesn't just drop off before the peak - the 3.8 is still an OHV, relatively torquey engine (and the 3.8 makes slightly more torque than the 4.0 so it will meet or beat the 4.0's numbers even when not right at the peak).

Apr 11, 2008 · the 4.0 I6 goes back to 1990, and is built on the platform from the 258 4.2 motor before that goes back to at least the 70's. it has a huge following, and most who have one love it, i love that motor. the v6 came out of the chrysler minivan. its a decent motor, but more geared toward daily driving, little better horse, not as torquey as the I6.
I-4 Turbo vs V6 - Jeep Wrangler Forum
Nov 21, 2019 · BTW, my Toyota Tacoma had a direct injection 3.5 V6: yes, it was marginally more fuel efficient, but I didn’t care for the unwanted NVH it sent through the frame, the driveline and into my ears. The Jeep 3.6 V6 feels buttery smooth in comparison.
