Nov 5, 2002 · 4cyl and V6 3rds both interchange in the housings and you use your current axle shafts. Both are 8" TNToy/Yota San/Dr. Evil have some pics showing the differances in the 3rd members making the V6 stronger. How much stronger I have no clue and really do not care as I run a 4 cyl 3rds. Once they go south on me, I'll switch to a stronger V6.

MPG is rated as 19/31 with 8 speed and 18/30 with 5 speed i have tried both and they perform equally, In august we took the 2011 V6 with 5 speed and the 2013 V6 6 speed for a road trip, cars performed almost equally.

Many shops sell only 4cyl gears and when installing them in put an extra shim in to make the pinion gear fit the V6 housing.
