The new design concept was created by employees at the railroad’s Jenks Locomotive Shop in North Little Rock, Arkansas. As locomotives need new paint, they will receive this treatment as part of Union Pacific’s locomotive overhaul and modernization program.

In early April, Kansas City Southern de Mexico AC44CW 4516 was set out on the siding at Colton, NE presumably for a mechanical issue. Jul 26, 2022 · Union Pacific (UP) on July 25 reported that a “handful” of its locomotives are now sporting a new paint scheme that shifts some design elements, including moving the American flag closer to the front.

Union Pacific is a major customer of the similar AC4400CWM rebuild program. All of these locomotives are classified as C44ACM, which is similar to the C60AC (including convertibles) and C44AC rebuilds. All of the rebuilds use UP's new paint scheme that was introduced in late 2022.

Jul 25, 2022 · ANAHEIM, Calif. — A new Union Pacific locomotive paint scheme has surfaced, although it is unclear whether the design represents a change, a test, or a one-off for some other purpose.
