Feb 18, 2021 · The Unki mine was the first in the world to publicly commit to be independently audited against the IRMA Standard for Responsible Mining in 2019 and is both the first mine in Africa and the first producing platinum group metals operation to complete the audit, which was verified by SCS Global Services.

A PGE mine in the Selukwe sub-chamber of the Great Dyke, an elongate layered mafic-ultramafic intrusion (550 km long, up to 11 km wide) into Archean granites and greenstones of the Zimbabwe craton.

The operations of Unki Mines (Pvt) Limited are situated on the Great Dyke of Zimbabwe, approximately 60 kilometres south-east of Gweru. The mine is a mechanised, trackless bord-and-pillar underground operation.

Unki is one of the world’s largest PGM deposits outside of South Africa, on the Great Dyke operation. Unki is a fully mechanised, trackless, underground operation, which also includes Concentrator and Smelter. The Unki mine extracts the Main Sulphide Zone (MSZ) and is at steady-state production, with long-dated strategic growth potential.

May 16, 2019 · The $62 million smelter at Unki Mine’s existing complex near Shurugwi is a strategic investment for the company, meeting local beneficiation commitments. Anglo American Platinum today opened the completed Unki Mine smelter at a ceremony held at its Unki Mine in Shurugwi, Zimbabwe.
