umi is a design environment for Rhinoceros 3d (Rhino) and includes an application programming interface for researchers and consultants interested in adding additional performance modules and metrics. Focus users are urban designers and planners, municipalities, utilities, sustainability consultants and other urban stakeholders.

Timur Dogan devleoped the umi Urban Daylight and umi Operational Energy plugins. Carlos Cerezo wrote the umi Embodied Energy plugin. Tarek Rakha and Cody Rose developed the umi Walkability module.

Welcome to UMIverse, a portal for urban-level simulation projects based on our environmental urban analysis platform called the Urban Modeling Interface (UMI). We conducted these projects either in classes on urban modeling at MIT and Harvard or as part of larger research activities with external partners worldwide.

Umi is an urban modeling platform run by MIT’s Sustainable Design Lab, which estimates the environmental performance of buildings and cities with modules for embodied energy, walkability, and daylight and shading.
