My name is Uma Bhat and I’m a senior at UNC’s School of Journalism & Media. I’m also pursuing minors in Statistics & Analytics and data science. I’m still not totally sure what I want to do for the rest of my life yet, but right now I love business and economics reporting.

Uma Bhat was a daily news intern with WUNC during the spring 2023 semester. At the time, she was a sophomore at UNC-Chapel Hill studying journalism and data science.

Dr. Uma Bhatt. I majored in Mechanical Engineering as an undergraduate and was planning to attend graduate school in the area of alternate energy. After finishing my BS degree, I joined the U.S. Peace Corps and served as a high school math teacher in Kenya for two years (1983-85).

Jan 22, 2023 · Growing up, I was a freakishly competitive kid. I grew up in a family that placed a lot of importance on academic and career success. I calmed down a lot by the end of high school, but one of my first distinct memories of college is logging onto a professor’s office hours and having a conversation that went something like this:
