The USS Midway was the longest-serving aircraft carrier in the 20th century. Named after the climactic Battle of Midway of June 1942, Midway was built in only 17 months, but missed World War II by one week when commissioned on Sept. 10, 1945.

The USS Midway Museum brings you the most complete cross-section of carrier aviation in the world. Experience a unique journey on America’s symbol of freedom, featuring an exhibition of more than 30 restored aircraft and nearly 10 acres of exhibits and displays.

The Midway’s Flight Deck features 26 skillfully restored carrier aircraft, including jet fighters, attack aircraft, helicopters, and specialist designs. They span decades from the Battle of Midway in 1942 to the Korean and Vietnam Wars to today’s tactical aircraft.

Over its 47 year career, the aircraft carrier USS Midway became one of the most famous ships in the United States Navy. Commissioned just two weeks after the end of World War II, the USS Midway was the ‘tip of the spear’ for the United States, often placed at the center of the most important events of the late 20th century.
