The Detroit (LCS 7) is the fourth ship in the Freedom-class littoral combat ships and the sixth ship in the United States Navy to be named after the city of Detroit, Michigan. Construction began in May 2012 at the Marinette Marine Corp. Shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin, and the keel was laid down on November 8, 2012 .
