Apr 30, 2018 · The USB icon has just started flicking up for a fraction of a second in the system tray. It happens randomly but at least once every 10 secs. There is no uSB plugged in. Apparently it started happening after the kids pushed some keys on the keyboard. I have recenlty installed any new software.

Feb 20, 2023 · One thing of note: in "Taskbar Settings - Select which icons appear in the taskbar", "Windows Explorer - Safely Remove Hardware and Eject" DOES appear among that list of notification switches and yet nothing is listed when 'right-clicking' the USB icon.

May 16, 2019 · I'm trying to make my usb drive icon reappear using an "autorun.inf" file. this is what my file contains : [AutoRun] Icon=Omid.ico Label=Omid and it is copied to the flash drive as well as the icon file. the name of the icon is exactly as written above. so what is the problem? looks like the autorun file is completely ignored !

Jul 17, 2018 · That works for DVDs, USB sticks and SD memory cards. An external HDD is not classed as 'removable media' so it does not have an eject option in File Explorer. A USB HDD can only be ejected from the taskbar icon.
