In July of 1997 he became a Commissioned Career Sensei under Grand-Master Peter Urban, and at that time, Maestro Urban assigned him Goju Hall No. 300. Along with his Goju Training, Kyoshi Gonzalez continues to practice his disciplines of Kendo, Iaido, and Jujitsu.

He moved to Florida in 1978 (after receiving his Nidan from Grand-Master Urban) to continue his college education. That same year, Hanshi Teller established the first Karate Club at the University of West Florida, and began teaching USA Goju Karate.
