The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) is the UK’s independent authority for all-source terrorism assessment. JTAC is based within MI5 and reports to the Director General, but their assessments are made independently.

The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) is responsible for setting the threat level for the UK from terrorism, and the threat level from Northern Ireland Related Terrorism in Northern Ireland. Both threat levels are kept under regular review.

In June 2003 the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) was set up in MI5’s HQ, Thames House, as ‘the UK’s national centre for the assessment of international terrorism’, with representatives of around a dozen government departments and agencies concerned with various aspects of counterterrorism.
