The Underwater Demolition Badge was established as a decoration for members of Navy Underwater Demolition Teams (UDTs) and is considered a predecessor decoration to the modern day Special Warfare Badge.

There were three insignia companies that manufactured these UDT badges in the 1970s and they were Meyers, Antaya and Vanguard.

This is partly due to the combined training both officers and enlisted men receive, side by side, when involved in BUD/S training. The Special Warfare insignia consists of an eagle clutching a U.S. Navy anchor, trident, and flintlock-style pistol. Sep 8, 2023 · I picked up these two UDT badges and cloth SEAL badge. Officer gold marked - VANGUARD V-21 with the backward N. Enlisted silver marked - VANGUARD V-21 with the backward N and SILVER FILLED. Both are early 70s issue. But the cloth SEAL badge has a black board I can find pictures of anywhere except in the Charlie Sheen movie Navy Seals.
