The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) serves critically ill children who need highly specialized care and continuous monitoring. Our patients include kids who are suffering from a life-threatening condition as well as those who are recovering from surgery.

The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit is part of the Neonatal Cardiovascular Center of Excellence, which cares for premature and critically ill infants with congenital heart defects with the aim of supporting their long-term cardiovascular health and neurological development.

Goal: to ensure comfort with as minimal pharmacologic treatment as possible. Indications: anxiety not due to delirium, ventilatory dyssynchrony, neuromuscular blockade, status epilepticus, severe respiratory failure, agitation when safety of patient or others is at risk, procedural sedation.

Each week the surgical critical care fellow gets one day off from their ICU responsibilities. During the Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ACS) Fellowship year, the fellow will take regular in-house call as previously described and be available for major trauma surgical cases.
