When the project was restarted, a taller, stronger, version of the Type 26 with a sidewalk was developed to be crash tested according the Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) guidelines. This new version was named the Type 732SW.

To crash test a Type 732 bridge rail fabricated from steel plate rather than concrete (hereinafter referred to as the Type 732S) in accordance with NCHRP Report 350 Test Level 4 criteria for longitudinal barriers.

The Type 732s bridge rail is a steel version of the widely used Type 732 reinforced concrete bridge rail. It was initially designed for use on the new span of the San Francisco / Oakland Bay Bridge. A representation of the 732s bridge rail was fabricated, installed, and tested at the Caltrans Dynamic Test Facility in West Sacramento, California.

Description: Type 732SW bridge rail is a vertical, reinforced concrete wall on a sidewalk with a pedestrian steel tubular handrail or chain link fence on top (TL-2).

Unlike the proposed Avro 721 low-level bomber of 1952 or the Avro 730 supersonic stainless steel canard bomber dating from 1954 (cancelled in 1957 before completion of the prototype), the Type 732 showed its Vulcan heritage.

The objective of this project was to crash test the Type 732SW (a modified barrier based on the Type 26 bridge rail) that was designed to meet the MASH 09 Test Level 3 criteria for longitudinal barriers.

An inscription on the instrument reads “ELECTRIC SHOCK THERAPY APPARATUS—OFFNER ELECTRONICS INC.—CHICAGO / TYPE 732 SER. 325—105-125 VOLTS—50-60 CYCLES A.C.”

Provides straight-through flow for lower pressure drop. Sizes from 2 - 12" | DN50 - DN300. Pressures up to 300 psi | 2068 kPa | 21 bar.

Apr 4, 2017 · All project-specific modifications to Concrete Barrier Type 732SW must be reviewed by the Bridge Railing Technical Specialist in the Caltrans/Division of Engineering Services/Office of Design and Technical Services.

For Type 732SW, 75SW, 76SW, 85SW and other sidewalk barriers increase overall “H” by increasing vertical height “C1”. Minimum sidewalk thickness in standard details is measured from top of roadway surface (top of overlay).
