Jul 21, 2000 · The F marked type 1s are pretty good. None of the Type 2s would accept a mag and had significant problems with locking shoulder.. The type 3 was really bad all around I'll update this as I refine my notes and progress to testfire. If a subsequent receiver had the same problem as the previous, I did not photograph it. Apr 20, 2020 · As already mentioned, any FAL receiver will work for any FAL, but South American Argy and Imbels were all originally type 3s. The strike plate on the lower that mates up to the rear of the upper has a profile that matches, but it's only cosmetic.

Feb 8, 2003 · In the June 82 issue of SOF, it states "LAR recievers are investment cast and mill finished, with a hoped life of 40,000 rounds". In the December 86 issue it states"Forged in Belgium from sae 4140 steel, the forging weighs 7 pounds when it is shipped to Israel". Which is true? Are FN type 3 recievers investment cast or not? Aug 6, 2018 · In between 1962 and 1973, FN started production on Type 2 receiver but some older Type 1 still lingered. I believe FN changed the lower receiver's disassembly lever from vertical position to horizontal when they went to the Type 3 receiver in 1973, but I could be wrong. I'm curious but why an FN FAL and not a South African R1?

Dec 2, 2011 · The type 3 was essentially a cost cutting/strengthening measure and eliminated most of the cuts to save machine time, it is also a bit heavier duty. Not much difference in function between the 3 in a semi as it never receives the pounding a FA milspec FAL does.
