I have tried taking off the drive belts to isolate the sound but the sound did not quit. Any ideas where the sound would be coming from? Oil pressure is fine, no over heating, and no burning smells

Until the results are finalized and that might be some years, I am choosing to not own a car with a turbocharged engine. We presently own a non-turbo 2.2 and also a non-turbo 2.5 liter auto with enough power for our needs.

After hard use- extended periods “on boost” like racing- can raise the temp of the turbo to over 1000 degrees, so turning the engine off w/o letting the coolant and oil circulate through and cool it off can lead to cooking the bearings and oil.

Sep 21, 2009 · Because on a turbocharged car you will have normal engine vacuum at idle/low RPMs. The boost pressure only comes on when the accelerator pedal is nailed down. You could see this by either fitting a vacuum/boost gauge to a turbo car, driving it, and noting the vacuum/boost readings or by test driving a car with a factory boost gauge.
